The importance of a healthy diet

We all know a good diet is important for a healthy lifestyle. A healthy body will come from providing our body with a diet full of variety. A healthy diet will enhance well-being and reduce the risk of diseases such as cancer and diabetes.

What is a healthy diet?

A healthy diet is full of variety and rich in fruit and vegatables. It includes foods from all groups but limited amounts of fats and sugars.
No single food can provide all the essential nutrients that the body needs. Therefore, it is important to consume a wide variety of foods to provide the body with all the nutrients that are important for health.

concepthealth provides information to enable each individual to achieve a healthy diet.

Calorie Intake

UK Department of Health Estimated Average Requirements (EAR) are:
  • 1940 calories per day for women
  • 2550 calories per day for men
The average covers a wide range of individuals.

concepthealth can give you personalised calorie figures. This is particularly useful as many factors affect this calories figure: including your age, height and weight, your basic level of daily activity. A personalised nutritional breakdown means no more relying on averages.

Losing weight

To lose 1lb a week you need a negative calorie balance of 500 calories per day.
This can be achieved only when you know your current intake of calories and where these calories are coming from i.e are they mostly carbs? protein? or fat?

You can achieve a negative calorie balance through exercise - see exercise calorie section.

concepthealth has all the tools you need to manage your weight by managing your calorie intake.
